Hier können wir den Junghengst Quinto, *2020, 3 Jahre alt, Sohn von Lusitanohengst Zurebaran aus einer Quarter x Vollblutstute, bei der Vorbereitung auf eine der ersten Longenstunden beobachten. Um das Gebiß einzulegen, öffnet die Longenführerin Martina Hug das Maul mit dem Daumen, indem sie an einer zahnlosen Stelle im Gebiß mit dem Finger in die Maulspalte eindringt und auf die Zunge drückt. Hierdurch öffnet der Junghengst sein Maul und das Gebiß kann problemlos im Maul eingelegt werden. Anschließend bekommt er den Kappzaum zum Longieren angezogen, damit das Gebiss während der Longeneinheit ruhig im Maul liegen bleiben kann. Dies sind ideale Vorraussetzungen um ein junges Pferd vorsichtig an ein Gebiß zu gewöhnen und auf das Reiten vorzubereiten.

To insert the bit, the lunging instructor Martina Hug opens the mouth with her thumb by inserting her finger into the cleft of the mouth at a toothless point in the bit and pressing on the tongue. This opens the young stallion’s mouth and the bit can be easily inserted into the mouth. The cavesson is then put on for lunging so that the bit can remain calmly in the mouth during the lunging session. These are ideal conditions for carefully getting a young horse used to a bit and preparing him for riding.
